7. Apple Dictation and Windows Voice Typing

• Mac: Apple Dictation is built in. On Apple Silicon, general dictation is processed on your device, and there's no time limit on how long you can dictate. It does stop after 30 seconds of silence, and it doesn't clean up your text with AI.
• Windows: press Win + H to start voice typing. It uses Microsoft's cloud, so it needs an internet connection. Voice Access, on Windows 11, works offline and lets you control your whole PC by voice.

These built-in tools are the right place to start. People usually move to a dedicated app when they want filler words removed, better punctuation, a custom vocabulary, or a single shortcut that works the same everywhere.
