"Invalid or expired token" when you sign in
What it means: Blip couldn't check your sign-in with our servers. Your antivirus, a firewall or a VPN can block it.
This fixed it for a Windows user:
- Turn off your antivirus for a few minutes.
- Install Blip again. When the installer asks who to install it for, pick the all users option.
- Open Blip and sign in.
- In your antivirus, add Blip to the safe list. Look for Exceptions, Exclusions or Allowed apps.
- Turn your antivirus back on. Blip keeps working.
Still stuck? Turn off your VPN, or try a phone hotspot. If it works there, your network is blocking Blip.

Blip can't hear you
How to tell: hold the keys and talk. A small bar shows up at the bottom of your screen. Its bars should jump when you talk.
You might also see one of these:
- "Speak a bit louder so I can catch that."
- "I mostly heard background noise. Please try again."
- "No audio captured. Please try again."
These mean Blip got little or no sound from the mic it's listening to. That may not be the mic you're talking into.
Do this:
- Pick your mic. In Blip, open Settings → General → Microphone → Change. Choose the mic you talk into. This fixes it for many people.
- Turn up the mic volume. In Windows, open Settings → System → Sound. Pick your mic under Input and raise its volume.
- Restart your PC. This fixed it for a Windows user when nothing else did.
"Microphone error. Please check permissions."
What it means: Blip couldn't start your mic. Sometimes you'll see a Microphone Error window instead.
Do this:
- Let apps use your mic. In Windows, open Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone (on Windows 10: Settings → Privacy → Microphone). Turn on microphone access, and turn on access for desktop apps.
- Close other apps that might be using the mic, like Zoom or Teams.
"Speech recognition failed. Please try again." at work
What it means: your company's web filter may be blocking Blip. A Windows user saw this at work, and it worked with the filter off.
Do this: ask your IT team to let Blip through. They can message us for the addresses Blip uses.
"Please disconnect your VPN and try again."
Do this: turn off your VPN, then try again.
Blip misses your first words
Try this: press the keys, wait a moment, then start talking. A Windows user found this helps.
"Cannot paste into elevated app"
What it means: the app you're typing into is running as administrator. Windows won't let other apps type into it.
Do this: click Restart as Admin when Blip asks. Or open that app the normal way, not with Run as administrator.

FAQ
Is my account broken if I see "Invalid or expired token"? Not always. Blip shows it when it can't reach our servers to check your sign-in. Antivirus, a firewall or a VPN can cause that.
Will reinstalling Blip fix "Invalid or expired token"? Not on its own. What worked for a Windows user: turn off antivirus, reinstall for all users, sign in, then add Blip to the antivirus safe list.
Why does Blip say "Speak a bit louder so I can catch that"? Blip got almost no sound from the mic it's listening to. Pick your mic in Settings → General → Microphone → Change.
Do I have to keep my antivirus off? No. Add Blip to its safe list, then turn your antivirus back on.
What does "Cannot paste into elevated app" mean? The app you're typing into runs as administrator. Click Restart as Admin when Blip asks.
How do I change the Blip AI hotkey on Windows? In Blip, open Settings → Shortcuts. The default is Ctrl + Win.
